What is the Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) stating?
As per the IMD, the cyclone is losing its strength and turning into a cyclonic storm towards the northeast of Karaikal. As per the department, it seems to be moving towards the northwest entering the north of Tamilnadu crossing Puducherry and adjoining the south Andhra coast somewhere around Mahabalipuram.
Chennai airport cancelled all flights on Friday
Considering the heavy rainfall and bad weather conditions, all flights are getting cancelled by the Chennai airport authorities.

Heavy rainfall has been predicted by the IMD for the next two days
The Deputy Director General of Meteorology in a conversation with ANI stated to expect heavy rainfall today and tomorrow as the cyclone seems to be moving towards the northwest direction.

Should you go to Pondicherry amidst this stormy weather?
I wouldn’t advise that, at all. Even if you plan to, you might see many troubles on the way like cancelled flights, blocked roads or even worse. Even if everything is okay with the transportation, still it is not safe to visit even the best places in India in the middle of a Cyclone.
