The Temples built by Hoyasala Dynasties at Belur, Somnathpura and Halebid in Karnataka have been nominated for the 2022-23 list of Unesco World Heritage Sites.
Hoyasala Temples: nominated for UNESCO World Heritage Sites
In the list of Unesco World Heritage sites for 2022-23, the Hoyasala Temples at Belur, Halebid and Somnathpura have been nominated which is a great news for the all of us (Indians).
These temples are the best examples of the Hoyasala Architectures which had an influence on most of the southern part of the India in 13th century. The temples are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
Vishal Sharma, the Indian Representative of India to UNESCO has submitted the Nomination of Hoyasala Temples to the director of UNESCO world Heritage Sites.

What is so important in Hoyasla temples?
These temples were not built by any single King. In fact it was started and then continued by the generations of the Hoyasala Dynasty.
One of the significant rulers of Hoyasala Dynasty was Vishnuvardhana. He came to power in 1110CE and commissioned the construction of Chennakeshava Temple in 1117CE. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Belur.
What is a heritage site?
A heritage site is a place, area or landmark which remains in the protection of UNESCO. The prime purpose of this is to contain and preserve the cultural and historical significance related to that area or landmark. UNESCO designates the tag of World Heritage Sites depending upon it’s cultural or natural importance.
How is it selected?
To be a part of World Heritage Sites, it has to be unique. It has to be culturally and geographically identifiable. The Site should have a special cultural or physical significance.
