Khajuraho Trip

I believe, this Khajuraho Trip is amongst the most important trips in our country. If you are a student or a person who wants to know the culture. If you want to understand the thought process of people from that era. You must see what they have carved on the walls, and sculpted on the temples. Khajuraho is one of them containing enormous aspects and possibilities of life. Read about these sculptures and see the Itinerary for Khajuraho below.

Khajuraho

Khajuraho is a city in Madhya Pradesh in the Chhatarpur district. It is one of the major tourist attraction sites all over India. Khajuraho temple is mainly known for its erotic sculptures. However, as per my understanding, it was probably made to normalize the Taboo among the general public. Like in today’s world we talk about things which were considered Taboo for many centuries mainly due to the cultural distortions that happened due to continuous invasions.

Khajuraho Meaning

In the year of 1986, the Khajuraho group of Monuments were listed and added to a UNESCO world heritage site. It is also one of the Seven Wonders of India. This city has an ancient name “Khajuravahka” i.e. – Khajur – Date, Vahaka – Carrier.

This region was ruled by many empires and emperors and if we start to talk about them, it will take much of our time. You may take references from Wikipedia or other sources for more information.

How to visit Khajuraho

The nearest Airport to Khajuraho Town is only 3kms away and there are flights available for Delhi and Varanasi. Although the location of this airport has been suggested as inappropriate by experts and said to be harmful to the Monuments. So I will suggest you all not to take direct flights to this airport in particular. Another nearby airport is 135 km away and that is Rewa Airport Chorhatta.

There are trains available from Khajuraho Railway station to Delhi via Chhatarpur, Jhansi, Agra, and Mathura. For now, there are two trains connecting Khajuraho i.e. Geeta Jayanti Express and Uttar Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express.

Right time to visit Khajuraho temple

Being in the centre of the nation, the temperature of the state remains up throughout the year. Hence planning for a trip in summer is not a good idea. So the best time to go on the Khajuraho trip is from October to March.

Start your Khajuraho tour from the Archaeological Museum

Now take a taxi to Archaeological Museum Khajuraho first and get to know this place at first.

Note:  people who already have enough knowledge about the place and its history and culture may skip the Archaeological Museum Khajuraho. Although, it is still a good place to visit. This Museum is almost 9 km from the Railway station.

Once you have done knowing the things in the museum, you can also take a walk to the western Group of Temples. The western group of Temples in Khajuraho include all the major temples and the best places to visit. The Khajuraho Temple, Vishwanath Temple, Nandi Temple, Lakshamana Temple, Varaha Temple and many others are nearby only.

Plan your day in advance

There is also a light and sound show in the western complex of Temples. Therefore, you should plan your day by arranging some time reserved for that too.

Although some of you might think that you can cover these destinations in 1 day only. But that is never the purpose of travelling. You are not here to mark your attendance instead; you are here to explore it. So, I will request you to take time, and in case you can afford and arrange, even extend your trip.

Once you are okay to leave the city, make sure you have your return tickets ready as per your schedule and get back to your daily life till your next trip. I wish it comes soon.

Bonus tips for Budget trip to Khajuraho for Students

Total Cost/person = 2000

Delhi to Khajuraho Sleeper ticket fare – 370rs, both sides – 740rs

Small Car pick up and drop – 200rs, share taxi might be cheaper

A meal for two – 400 to 500rs

Khajuraho Temple entry – 40rs/person

Always travel in groups as that will distribute your total expense. Book a hostel rather than a hotel. Hostels are budget friendly and are mainly built for travel purposes with facilities oriented to travelling. Try to contact the property and convince them to lower the rate, sometimes they do agree. Avoid eating out, especially near any attraction site. They are comparatively costlier. Sharing is mostly cheaper than a booking, prefer whichever is costing you less. If possible, try to include a friend in your plan who is from that region i.e. Madhya Pradesh. The reason is a local person knows his/her place better and also the language helps while booking auto/taxi etc.

Very useful information. I want to visit this place with family. What would be the best time to go?

The weather of Madhya Pradesh remains warm throughout the year. So if you are not a summer person than you should ideally avoid summers. Winters are the best for this trip and will also reduce your accommodation cost as you don’t need AC in winters. October to March are the ideal months for this trip.
