Mawlynnong

Located in the lush green surroundings of the Northeastern state, Meghalaya; Mawlynnong is the cleanest village in all of Asia. It is situated on the East Khasi hill in the southern region of Meghalaya. Also, the streams, trees, and fruit orchards along with the traditional culture of the Khasi tribe make it a place worth visiting.

This village was selected as the cleanest village in Asia by “Discover India Magazine” in the year 2003. It is rightly called “God’s own garden” as one can experience a lifelong memory that too of lying in the middle of a fruit orchard with greenery and pleasant weather. One can climb the bamboo tree houses near the churches and get an amazing view of the neighbouring country, Bangladesh.

Fun fact about Mawlynnong:-

It is famous for its living root bridges. Although people are stunned by the amazing structures and think that it is a natural phenomenon. But only some people know the actual fact that it is actually man-made. These structures are typical Khasi traditional architecture made by weaving the roots that too in a particular framework and working on it for generations.
