Sankat Mochan Temple is situated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and his Guru Lord Rama. Lord Hanuman is someone who provides relief from all kinds of Troubles. That is why he is the “Sankat Mochan” for his devotees.

Sankat Mochan Mandir and Goswami Tulsidas

The temple was established by the poet Goswami Tulsi Das in the 16th century. Tulsi Das had a dream vision by Lord Hanuman and that is the place where the main deity is placed in the temple. The current temple structure was built by the freedom fighter and revolutionary Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in the year 1900.

Thousands of devotees visit this temple every day and chant the Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand. Especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays, a large number of devotees visit the temple as Lord Hanuman solves Shani (Saturn) and Mangal (Mars) problems.

Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh

It is a concert or music festival held annually. The festival is celebrated for 5-6 days in the month of April surrounding “Hanuman Jayanti” (the birthday of Lord Hanuman). Revered performers of Indian classical dance and music performed on this occasion without charging a single rupee. There is no entry fee for this Samaroh. This would also be the best time to visit this temple for tourists.

Attacks on the Temple

In the year 2006, March, the Sankat Mochan Temple faced a terrorist bombing which killed and injured many but this could not keep the devotees away from worshipping their Lord. The very next day of the blast saw a huge number of devotees visiting and praying to the Lord.

Recently in the year 2022, it completed its 99th year of celebration. It was started in the year 1923 as a one-day celebration but slowly it gained popularity and the organizers decided to expand it to a 5-6 day festival. More information about this article can be found on this website.
